Being a holy priest is one of the two healing Talent trees available to a Priest. While discipline is unique, and focuses on mitigation, Absorbs and Raid Utility, Holy Priests use their talents to maximize raid healing. Holy Priests differ from other Area of Effect Healers in that they do not put out a steady stream of medium or small heals, but Waterfall Heal in large bursts.
HPriests are mainly cast time healers, with the potential to do very high burst healing.
Discs and HPriets share many of the same abilities, but to keep from repetition only the more notable HPriests ones are metioned here.
Mechanics/Abilities: HPriests have a mechanic called their Chakra state that allows them to switch between single and multi target healing. As multi target healers they use an AoE heal (Holy Word: Sanctuary), three 5 target heals (Prayer of Healing, Circle of Healing and Divine Hymn), spammed instant HoTs (Renew) and a bouncing chain heal (Prayer of Mending). As a single target healer they have several strong cast time heals (Flash Heal, Greater Heal and Binding Heal). With the mechanic Body and Soul, HPriests can gain/give up to a 60% speed boost for 4 seconds when they cast Power Word: Shield on themself or friendly players. They also have a unique heal called Lightwell, which is arguably HPriest’s strongest and most mana efficient heal – if players would actually click it.
What Mastery Does: Echo of Light: Their direct healing spells heal for an additional 10% over 6 sec. Each point of Mastery provides an additional 1.25% healing over 6 sec.
Misc. Info: Priests have a rather large toolkit in comparison to other classes. HPriests mana regen scales with spirit.
Strong Points: They can go back and forth between single and multi target healing swiftly and easily.
Weak Points: There can be mana problems with low gear not strong on wow gold grinding. Mana control and conservation are big parts of the playstyle.
Fun Fact: In 5-mans, a potential wipe can be saved even in death by using Divine Hymn while in Spirit of Redemption form.
Warlocks are the most changed class in Mists of Pandaria, and demonology is getting some serious attention from Ghostcrawler as its new playstyle is flushed out. Notable in Ghostcrawler’s discussion is that the days of using both fire and shadow spells with a lot of demon damage are being looked upon as something that weren’t super compelling. Importantly, Ghostcrawler also says that demonology warlocks aren’t intended to be melee casters anymore.
As a raiding demonology warlock, I find that Ghostcrawler’s design intentions really make me pleased. Right now, if you want to do good DPS as a demo ‘lock, you’re going to be in the melee group as much as possible to get the most benefits from Metamorphosis and Immolation Aura, while at the same time staying stationary to turret out your DPS. In Ghostcrawler’s plan for Mists, the necessity of melee-range spells is going to be situational. No longer am I going to be pestering my raid leader to put me in the melee group for Zon’ozz, and I should be able to stay at range and enjoy such benefits there as much as I can (which, at least in my perfect world, would include less movement).
It’ll be interesting to see how this kit plays out in the end. It always seems to be one of those specs that gets changed around a fair amount in one way or another, and Ghostcrawler does say that Blizzard is looking to make a home for demonology.
