WoW gives players the choice between 10 classes at mmocarts.com
Much like WoW, Rift challenges players to level customizable characters in a social role-playing fantasy world while trying to save it from being torn apart by magical rifts that unleash planar invasions in the Planes of Telara. Also, unlike in WoW where each class has its own designated cookie-cutter play style, Rift players can customize their character’s fighting style to their own choosing, potentially resulting in raids in which no character is necessarily the same.Obviously WoW has still managed to hold on to the majority of its large player base and attract more, even amid Rift-converts leaving for the game, which has been referred to as “WoW 2.0.” But only time will tell whether or not Trion Worlds can build upon its power and fan base to win over the WoW oversaturated MMORPG market. In the meantime, for players who have grown tired of the land of Azeroth, adventuring in the Planes of Telara is a welcome polished and dynamic change.
The events and random rifts make leveling all the more diverse, challenging and exciting by not limiting players to player versus player, dungeons or questing (once again, like in WoW). But what gives Rift its fighting power against WoW is the variety of individualization and customization each character is allowed. WoW gives players the choice between 10 classes while Rift only offers four, but Rift also gives each of the four classes eight trees or “souls” to work with, whereas WoW’s 10 classes are allowed only three trees per class.Rift is proving to be a prime competitor to WoW for a variety of reasons, most of which rely heavily on the idea that the game actually capitalizes on areas in WoW players find lacking. Graphics-wise, Rift is capable of stunning, high-resolution graphics that make WoW’s formerly beautiful graphics look cartoonish. Spells, attacks and buffs graphics are each unique to their function. The game also hosts dynamic server-wide events that occur frequently. These events, and the rifts themselves, can spawn invasions that take over entire cities.
